As the buzz around the OnePlus 13 intensifies, the company is steadily building anticipation with its trademark teasers. With each new hint, it’s becoming clearer that the upcoming flagship isn’t just about raw power, it’s about bringing fresh, innovative features into the lineup. According to recent comments by a senior OnePlus executive, the 2024 iteration is poised to deliver more than just performance upgrades, including a feature that could shake up the Android market – magnetic wireless charging, similar to Apple’s popular MagSafe.
This news was confirmed through a post on Weibo by Louis Lee, OnePlus’ country chief for China. In his post, Lee revealed that the OnePlus 13 will incorporate a magnetic wireless charging system, likely based on Qi2, which is the latest standard in wireless charging that builds on the foundation of MagSafe technology. What this means is that the phone will feature a magnetic coil on its rear panel, making it incredibly easy to snap on a charger or compatible accessories, ensuring quick and efficient wireless charging.
What makes this particularly exciting is OnePlus’ existing commitment to pushing the envelope when it comes to wireless charging speeds. Recent OnePlus models already boast some of the fastest wireless charging times in the market, and the OnePlus 13 looks set to continue that trend. It’s possible that OnePlus will offer users two options – the standard Qi2 wireless charging or its own proprietary high-speed solution, giving consumers flexibility in how they power up their devices. Although OnePlus is not the first Android brand to introduce magnetic charging. Infinix and HMD have both dipped their toes into this space, it’s the first time we’ll see it on a flagship-level device in this category.
Beyond the magnetic charging, early reports are suggesting some pretty significant hardware upgrades as well. One of the most talked-about features is a rumoured boost in RAM, with some speculating that the OnePlus 13 will offer configurations of up to a whopping 24GB, which would be unprecedented in the smartphone world. Coupled with that is the possibility of a 6,000mAh battery, capable of 100W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging, ensuring that even power users won’t have to worry about running out of juice during the day.
There’s also chatter about a new finish for the device, though details remain scarce. What’s clear is that with these top-tier specs, the OnePlus 13 could come with a price tag to match. However, if OnePlus manages to strike the right balance between price and features, this could be the Android flagship to beat in 2024. While the official China launch is expected soon, global markets, including India, will likely have to wait until early 2025 to get their hands on the OnePlus 13. Until then, we can only speculate on how this new flagship will stack up against the competition. One thing is certain, though – OnePlus is ready to shake up the Android space once again.
